Rockland council divided on charging festival fees offense...but people tend to get fat and lazy when they've had a good thing for too long.

My opinion is pay the fees if you want the services. Anyone else who puts on a festival has to pay.

On top of that....

The Lobster Festival is okay but it's not great. I would give it a 4 on a scale from 1 to 10.

Ask residents how they feel about the festival and they'll tell you "Its too expensive, and we don't go".

Yes....the festival is mainly supported by volunteers. But festival organizers are getting paid.

Tell me if I'm wrong...

Oh well...

Here the story.....

Rockland — Rockland city councilors were split on what, if any, fees should be levied on the Maine Lobster Festival this year.

The council hashed over the subject during its May 24 meeting. The council took no vote but asked that festival representatives meet with the city administration over whether services could be pared down to reduce costs.

Festival Board President Tim Carroll pointed out that the organization is staffed solely by volunteers.

"What is the value of the Maine Lobster Festival to the city of Rockland, not just in dollars and cents?" Carroll asked.
