Camden Hills Honors Musician Sarah Palermo

Rockport — Camden Hills Regional High School announced that the Visual & Performing Arts Department student of the month for June is Sarah Palermo.

Palermo is a junior at Camden Hills and has been involved in nearly every aspect of the school's music program. She is a member of the Camden Hills Women's Choir, Chamber Singers, and Concert and Symphonic bands. Palermo has been a member of the District 3 Honors Chorus for two years, the District 3 Honors Band for one year and was a member of the All-State Chorus in 2009 and 2010. She has also earned awards for the past three years at the school's National Honor Society Talent Show.

Palermo's interest in music began with piano lessons at 4 years of age. In fifth grade she began the study of flute and later the study of guitar. Over the past few years, Palermo has tried her hand at music composition and has composed/arranged works for the Camden Hills choirs.

In 2008, she was a contestant in the Bagaduce Young Composers Festival as well as the Coastal Star Search. She has studied music theory with her piano teacher Mary Bevan and is enrolled in the honors music theory course at the high school. In addition, this semester Palermo completed a college music theory course at University of Maine at Augusta.
