Why Buy the Newspaper?

I know Richard.......

Village Soup is the reason I started Village Stoop. I don't think news or print newspapers the way Richard envisions it is the future. I think it'll be more like, Associated Content, and news aggregation services like Google News.

Traditional ournalists do not always cover the news, nor are they always interesting writers.

Oh's Richard Anderson's take....(Richard is the founder of Village Soup a local newspaper and website).....

Let's think about this situation. I, and I am confident that you, can't imagine relying on volunteers to arise in the middle of the night to report on a tragic fire, to leave a family holiday gathering to report on and assist in the recovery of an accident victim, to attend evening municipal or school proceedings, or to cover the action at the local sports events with plenty of photos for Grandma and Grandpa. Such volunteers would need to make sure the coverage was fair and accurate, and would need to provide context and follow up.

Man Pleads Guilty in Toy Theft

I mean come on.....

All this for a $250 toy? I'm sure the retailer (Coastal Hobbies on Route 1 in Rockport) want to make a point.

But everyone forgets to mention the first toy this guy purchased was broken. The business owner wouldn't replace the guy just took a new one.

Is it really worth it? For the retailer...I guess so.

Rockland — A 67-year-old Rockland man pleaded guilty Feb. 11 in Rockland District Court to a charge that he stole a remote control helicopter from a local store.

Michael Crane made an agreement with the District Attorney's Office that if he meets certain conditions without further violations for the next six months, the charge will be dismissed.;jsessionid=AF4C9DF8B16BD7D9C64565DB0FDAC519

Man Charged After South Thomaston Fire

Oh boy....I know Lance.....

South ThomastonA 43-year-old Owls Head man has been arrested following a case in which police said he was "burning his tires" so excessively that his pickup truck caught fire and then spread to a commercial garage.

Lance McLain was arrested Feb. 8 and charged with operating under the influence and violating a condition of release, according to Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire that was called in shortly before 7 p.m. on Feb. 8 but no determination has been made on whether there will be a charge for the fire that destroyed the Island Auto building in South Thomaston, the sheriff said.
